Fashionable Wedding Photography: roundtable with Claudio Basso

Just “watched” a webinar put on by BogenCafé

This seminar should have been called “Lighting and Fashion”, there was very little wedding imagery (if any, two were maybes, because they were wearing white). I thought it was interesting from a Fashion and photography point of view, and learned, but was interested in wedding, and it didn’t really deliver. I got some notes on his mental process, saw some of his work (which is the same as on his web portfolio, almost image for image) so it was good that way, but the title and the content didn’t match.

MY NOTES:

What is Fashion?
Fashion is about the way you carry the clothes. Clothes that define a culture, a habit, a behavior: A LIFESTYLE. Identity to define a lifestyle, attitude reflects style.

Wedding:
pay attention to the details; gloves, shoes, etc

Avoid frozen uncomfortable photos. in the fashion world, a model can sit on a cactus and look comfortable. Look at the eyes, that translates to photographs.

Use a longer lens, to give the bride and groom room, a bubble, of comfort.

Get there early, pick the spot, so when the time comes, all you have to do is add the subject(s).

Learn to ignore everything around you while shooting – concentrate on the subject(s) and the shoot will become emotional while you connect with them.

Light:
What came from light is your visual perception of the subject. Light shapes the sensorial perception of our experieance. (Photo=light; graph=drawing)

The difference between Taking a photo, and Making a photo, is in how much control did you have over the shoot.

Misc:
Plan your shoots, don’t simply have them.
